Awareness, Prevention, and Management

Health is something we take for granted until we start losing it. It is an important part of our life, yet we don’t treat it with the importance it deserves. I wanted to start my first post with this significant issue, and I hope to see this trend reserve someday.

Very briefly, the first step would be to realize that we are all vulnerable to diseases and illnesses and we all witnessed that recently due to the coronavirus. Being aware of our health is to make it an important aspect of our lives and invest in the right activities that can enhance our health and keep sickness away. This can include better diet, active lifestyle, less stress, and many other activities. Prevention activities can include regular health screenings, necessary vaccinations, regular doctor checkups, etc. However, none of these activities can guarantee good health especially as we age but we still need to make disease free life a high priority. If in case we do end up with any disease and especially chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, we need to immediately make changes to manage the disease. These can include getting appropriate medical checkups, taking prescribed medication regularly, changing one’s diet, following approved exercise regimen, quitting smoking, and many others depending on the individual patient’s condition.

There is a lot of scope in Bangladesh to change the perception towards health. But first and foremost, it will need one’s own determination along with support from many other sectors including that from doctors and hospitals. It is a huge topic by itself and will require more thorough analysis and discussion. However, I plan to keep most of my posts short and to the point. And I hope it can foster active discussion.
